We’re sharing the inspiration board that helped to bring our Gold & Purple shoot to life.

Pears, gold accents, and rich purples set the tone for this inspired wedding.

We wanted to incorporate elegance with a touch of edge!

I think it’s always fun to see what inspiration a shoot or wedding starts with and then see how it all comes together in the end.

So simple, but oh so charming.

We’re loving the playful use of the chalkboard table runner (using the long ends of the runner for table numbers is genius!) and the small clay pots, tipped on their sides, act as placecards with guests’ names written in chalk.

Adorable! We love the addition of the fresh flowers too!

If anything, this pretty little table will have you wanting to postpone Summer’s arrival a little longer…!

We’re yearning for sun kissed days, pool parties, and cold margaritas.

Time to break out the shorts, bikini’s and, you guessed it, …wedding gowns!

But wait….

You’re pasty white…

What do you do about it?

Step into a tanning bed…?

Heck no!

Skin cancer and wrinkles are not your friends people!

We’re sharing some tips, tricks, and our fave products to help you achieve a faux summer glow (like the lovely Alessandra Ambrosio), minus the orange streaks!

Prep.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! This is the most important part of the whole process! Exfoliating helps to remove dry skin and creates a smooth surface.  Go with a scrub that is gentle and oil free. You don’t want to irritate the skin prior to tanning. Exfoliate the same day you apply your tanner.

Dry skin is more prone to streaking so make sure to moisturize after exfoliating and apply lotion to your face and body a few hours prior to your tanning application. You want to make sure your skin has ample time to absorb the moisturizer! (Clogged pores can also minimize the penetration of the tanning solution.)

Remember to apply moisturizer to your knuckles, elbows, knees, and ankles since these areas tend to be drier that other parts of the body and will absorb more of the tanning color.

Technique.

Use small, circular strokes to avoid streaking. Streaks occur when you don’t use enough product and you don’t blend it in enough. Be confident while coating your skin.

Apply the tanner to the lowest part of your body first. If you apply to your stomach or chest first, you risk getting creases when you bend over to apply tanner to your legs and feet! (No one wants that!)

If you’re a newbie (or even an experienced self tanner) avoid sprays. Instead, use a tinted self tanner lotion so you don’t miss any spots. Gel, foam, or lotion formula’s are generally easier to apply and easier to control!

After you’ve applied the self tanner, allow it to dry at least 15 minutes before getting dressed. You can also use a cool fan to dry your skin faster. (The one plus to using a spray formula…? Skin absorbs it faster.)

Make your tan last by limiting your shower time to 10 minutes in warm water. Water will wash away all your hard work!

Also wait to shave and exfoliate until you are ready to tan again.

Using a daily moisturizer will help to prolong your color.

The top layer of your skin is what absorbs the self tanner and it naturally sluffs off to make way for your new skin.You can expect a slight fading in between touch ups. Apply self tanner every 5-7 days to maintain your luminous glow!

Tips.

Can’t get your hands on a good exfoliant prior to your application? A loofah and water will do the trick!

Wear gloves! They might not be cute but they are necessary to avoid tan palms. But don’t forget to apply self tanner to the backs of your hands!

Prep your hairline. Light colored tresses are susceptible to discoloration. Use Vaseline, chap stick, or conditioner along your hairline to ensure it doesn’t achieve that “bronze glow”. Make sure to protect your brows too!

How are you going to reach your back without using a spray? Simple. Rubber band a large, cotton cosmetic square around the end of a back scratcher for a quickie tanning tool.

Don’t forget to tan your neck and ears! For easy application, apply self tanner with a cotton ball and q-tip.

Notice a few splotches or streaks after tanning? Using a cotton ball, apply nail polish remover or a strong alcohol based toner to the affected areas.

Add bronzer to the tops of your shoulders and collarbone to finish off the look!
